Sears Suits: Smartly simple, softly feminine

The 1947-1948 Fall and Winter Sears Catalog states...
Swallowtail Suit (Left) in a soft-draping virgin wool comes in the season’s smartest colors, is tailored with accent on quality. For fashion’s sake it wing spreads its collar, lengthens a rayon lined jacket to sleek tunic proportions. Novelty buttons sit in scallops on a femininely rounded hipline. Side-slit, gored skirt with a Talon zipper. Sizes 10 – 20
Kelly (bright) green, medium blue, grey $19.98

A Sears Special Value (Right)…the tunic suit in a tightly woven, domestic Shetland-type all wool is loved for its willowy waistline, wonderful way it curves out sleekly over a slender skirt. Rayon lined jacket goes to new longer length, has high-or-low collar, double close of buttons, slanty hip-flaps. Gored skirt closes sleekly with Talon zipper. Sizes 10 – 20
Kelly (bright) green, medium blue, grey $16.98
I colored my drawings with my children's markers, and neither is colored as stated in the catalog.

Classic Coats for Football Games

Here we have two great coats for football games and leisure walks around town or in the country.

My drawing today was in inspired by my daily walks with my daughter. Around 6:30 each morning we usually take a three mile walk, stopping in at McDonalds for our morning coffee.

On the left, dolman sleeves give this comfortable 1956 woman's coat a soft silhouette. With its large patch pockets, flowing fullness, and simple tie closure this warm coat is an easy to wear casual.

Sporting a 1952 classic black and white checked plaid swing coat, the young girl on the right is ready for any activity that comes her way.

These coats are taken from two separate patterns: Butterick 3842 (left) Suggested Fabrics: Felt, Lining: Printed Cottons; Wool Jersey, Lightweight Tweed;
Simplicity 4191 (right) Suggested Fabric: Cotton, Ottoman, Wool, Fleece

Both patterns are available at today with Etsy seller: shellmakeyouflip

Girls Coat Pattern: (Uncut) $23.00 Bust 34
Woman’s Coat Pattern $18.00 Bust 32

The Glorious Suit

Suits are spectacularly alluring, so refined and elegant. I pine for the days when women wore suits for everyday occasions, such as the girls in the office, the ladies at social luncheons, the mother on her way to the grocery store, and even the lady spectator at the baseball game.

I try to find information about the item I am sketching. Other than the fact of this being from the 50's, which is quite obvious, I don't have any detail about this suit.

Unforgettable Fashions Sketches

I am just getting this blog up and running. There will be much more coming quite soon.

I love the simplicity of dresses. Just slip into them and you are ready to take on the day.

Here we have a charming casual dress with stylish raglan sleeves. The four-gore skirt is gathered in front.

I drew this from 1950's Butterick 6805
Misses One Piece Dress Pattern
I don't really like the way the girl on the right turned out, but she was less inspiring. I really did not like her hair. I made a few changes to both, more so the on to the one on the right.
